Garage door repair in Austin — local-owned shops

When a spring snaps or the opener dies, Austin homeowners keep asking Reddit for a real local shop because Google is full of fake storefronts and lead generators. This hub is our answer: curated local-owned listings plus plain guides — no quote form.

What this site is

A small directory for homeowners (and small landlords) in the Austin metro who need garage door repair today — springs, openers, off-track doors — and want to give money to an owner-operator, not a private-equity call center.

It is run by Ed Burns / Mogul. We are not a franchise, not Angi, and we do not sell your phone number to three “local” vans.

How listings are chosen

A shop gets a stub profile here when we can find public signals that it is (or claims to be) independently / locally owned, and that it actually serves Austin-area addresses. Preference goes to:

  • Companies that state family-owned, veteran-owned, or owner-operator on their own site
  • Names that show up repeatedly in Austin Reddit recommendation threads (as community signal, not as our endorsement)
  • Public phone + website we can fetch without logging in

We do not invent star ratings, license numbers, insurance claims, or prices. If a fact is unverified, we omit it or mark it. A listing here is not a paid endorsement unless we later say so clearly.

Safety Garage door torsion springs are under high tension and can cause serious injury or death. Do not DIY spring work. Call a pro. See the spring repair guide.

How to use this directory

  1. Read the problem guide that matches your symptom (spring, opener, or off track / won’t close).
  2. Skim lead-gen vs local so you know what to ask on the phone.
  3. Pick 2–3 shops from the list below, call them yourself, and ask for an upfront quote before work starts.
  4. Ask: Are you locally owned? Who owns the company? Will you replace springs in pairs? What’s included in the quote?

Problem guides

Broken spring

Loud bang, door won’t lift, opener strains. Symptoms, safety, and cited Austin-area price ranges.

Opener repair

Genie / LiftMaster-style failures: remote dead, door reverses, motor hums. Repair vs replace.

Off track / won’t close

Sensor vs track vs cable vs spring in two minutes, what’s safe to check yourself, and cited off-track repair costs.

Lead-gen vs local

Why the “nearby” Google result may be a call center, and questions that surface ownership.

Austin-area shop profiles (stubs)

Five companies with public local-ownership claims and contact info we verified from their websites (and, where noted, Reddit mention patterns). Profiles are stubs — not full audits. Ownership and quality can change; confirm before you hire.

What we skip (for now)

  • National brands / large franchise networks that dominate “near me” ads (e.g. some A1-style SEO footprints) — even when Reddit sometimes recommends them
  • Any shop we cannot find a public phone or website for
  • “Get free quotes” widgets and scraped Google Maps dumps

Want a shop added or corrected? That outreach is draft-only via Ed — not automated from this site yet.
